Middleton Hills neighborhood in the City of Middleton has received local and national attention from architects, builders and city planners for its success at building an intimate, friendly and small town ambience in a self-sufficient neighborhood. These qualities include friendly streets, generous parks and green space and a pedestrian-oriented commercial center with shops and offices. An added bonus for Middleton Hills is its physical setting: its proximity to the city center of Middleton, the urban advantages of Madison, the academic and athletic resources of the University of Wisconsin, and the natural beauty of lakes, hills and woods.
Marshall Erdman, the founder and developer of Middleton Hills, called on the creative talents of Andres Duany to bring his Middleton Hills vision to reality. Erdman first became familiar with émigré and Yale-educated architect Duany in 1993 whose firm designed Seaside, Florida and Kentlands, Maryland. Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company (DPZ) had become a leader in the national movement called the new urbanism which seeks to end suburban sprawl and create wiser use of land. In the past 10 years, DPZ has since completed designs for more than 200 new towns, regional plans and community revitalization projects including the 150-acre neighborhood known as Middleton Hills. Gardd Parc, Welsh for Garden Park, is Middleton Hills’ latest addition to its self-sufficient neighborhood and features Prairie School architecture.
Gardd Parc was designed by Hiler Asssociates Architects of Madison and is being developed by Capital Housing, LLC a joint venture of Bill McDonough of Wil Mac Construction and John Sveum of Yahara Builders, Inc. Adjacent to the park, the underground parking design of the project promotes a variety of courtyard and park views. Each residence has 975 to 1640 square feet. Within the 51 units, there are 34 two-bedroom, 10 one-bedroom with dens and 7 lofts.
